Praying Trapeze

Trapeze School New York – or TSNY – filled me with both excitement and fear. I was there on Monday at the behest of my dear friends, the O’Kanes. Apparently, swinging approximately a hundred feet in the air is their idea of a de-stressing, good time. At first, I found the idea more distressing; I hate to admit that it really tweaked my fear of hanging, high up in the sky from a pole, but who was I to say ‘no thank you’?

If there ever was a perfect day for trapezing, this was it. Chelsea Piers is beautifully situated on the West Side of Manhattan. The Trapeze School is nestled along the West Side Highway, adjacent to Hudson River Park and the Hudson River. The trapeze venue was breathtaking, with miles of blue sky and rippling river water as the backdrop.

Despite my distress, and with gentle urgings from the incredible TSNY staff and the O’Kanes, I soldiered onward. It seemed to take forever getting into position. Once I had my instructions it really was quite simple and amazing. I flew through the air with the greatest of ease, feeling like a circus star, and I’d do it again in a heartbeat. I have never felt so exhilarated and alive.

I am so glad I conquered my fear and went for it. It is easy to see why so many people come to Trapeze School New York and why so many come back. Whether you are planning a special event, a fun date or are just looking for something out of the ordinary to do, you will love the TSNY. Don’t be surprised if you become addicted.
