Okay – maybe it is spelled Mamma Mia. Be that as it may, I am a huge fan of this musical, so much so that I’ve seen it on opening night in both London and New York. What a treat to experience both of these musical extravaganzas in two different countries.
That said, this smash hit and one of Broadway’s top selling musicals is coming this weekend to the Palace Theatre in Waterbury, Connecticut for just one weekend and one weekend only — this weekend! January 20, 2012, to January 22, 2012.
If you don’t know the story – it takes place on a tiny Greek island. Basically, it’s a farce about a daughters’ quest to find the identity of her father prior to her wedding. Her Mother had quite a colorful past in her youth. The daughter figures out that it must be one of three men and she writes them all letters inviting them to Greece for the wedding. You can only imagine what happens when they all show up. It’s great! No, you don’t need to be a fan of the supergroup ABBA, but when 23 hit songs get inexplicably intertwined into a story, you can’t help but fall in love and walk away having had an unforgettable experience.
And on this Sunday evening, while most men will be glued to their televisions watching the football playoffs, I’ll be proudly hosting a FREE pre-show party beginning at 5:30 pm called “GlaMARous Girls Night Out.” This last show comes with a special ticket price: only $45 for upper orchestra and mezzanine seats. I can see it now, Mar Jennings in a room filled with fabulously lovely ladies, and maybe a few gents. Now that sounds like a dream come true. Add the music of ABBA and it’s officially a MARma Mia party!
