How I (War) Paint the Town

Happy Sunday, MARtians!

I am thrilled that the weekend is upon us. I had a fabulous weekend kick-off planned and can’t wait to tell you how I spent my Friday. It was legendary–in that everything brought me up close and personal with legendary people and places.

My birthday is great opportunity to kick back and enjoy a moment out of my super busy life, but I rarely get to do so. While my actual day has passed, I got out for a real party on the town.

I was gifted with a “Birthday in the City” trip to New York, and I’ve been so excited to embark on the adventure ever since. The itinerary was as energetic as I am, but also made time for relaxing and recharging. Of course, I took advantage and was scouting for locations for my makeover show and doing a little work here and there.

I highly suggest to all my busy MARtians to make time for yourself, birthday or no. I know it can be hard, or perhaps you feel a little guilty about spending the time – but don’t! It is a fact that human beings, even MARtians, need time away from work and return even more productive after the fact.

My trip included a facial at the Erno Laszlo Institute in the City. It’s in chic SoHo, and I love this place because it truly sets the standard for the spas of today. Even beauty icon MARilyn Monroe adored these products and services. I believe they are so successful at what they do because of their long lineage as being the best at what they do. Recently, they totally reinvented the space, and I couldn’t wait to see the new and modern changes I’ve heard so much about. It did NOT disappoint. Serene and elegant, and the treatment rooms are tucked away–but, unlike so many spots in the city, they were spacious and calm. My facial was astounding–I can’t recommend it enough. You can learn more about it here.

After I was refreshed and pampered, I was starving. This was perfect because I had reservations at my all-time favorite Manhattan staple, Rosa Mexicano. Known for the pomegranate MARgarita and every other delicious thing on the menu, I love refueling here. Oh, and check out their legendarily perfect guacamole recipe, you won’t be disappointed.

As if all that wasn’t enough, I finished the day by stepping out on the town to see the two incredible, two-time Tony Award winners, Patti Lupone and Christine Ebersole in War Paint. It is a new musical I’ve been chomping at the bit to see with these grande dames of musical theater. It was a blast. How perfect to end a day that started with an icon in skincare and beauty, with a musical about two titans in the beauty business – Helena Rubinstein and Elizabeth Arden. Wow! It was a blast–and my front-row seats gave me an unparalleled experience “this close” to such Broadway royalty, and they were incredible.

After such a full, fun day I almost didn’t mind dodging the midtown traffic to make my way back home here to Rosebrook Gardens!

Have a beautiful weekend. See you back here next week refreshed, refueled and raring to go create a dynasty on MAR‘s.

Keep it Casual!
