I love horses and love to ride. Like most people I don’t get to indulge my passion for riding as much as I’d like, so it is extra special when I can ride locally. Salko Farms is Fairfield County’s best kept secret.
They strive to create not just great riders but responsible horsemen and horsewomen. They believe a great rider is a well-rounded rider. Their professional staff focuses on safety, fundamentals, and proper education both on and off of the horse. So when it came to returning to my riding lessons I decided to go to them.
Chris the owner is a second generation farmer who has lived and worked on this property his entire life. His parents Anna and Andrew started Salko Farm in 1948. When he is not helping students you can find Chris either on his tractor bailing hay or keeping the stable and grounds in immaculate condition.
Andrea, my trainer, as also the head trainer. She has has been riding for over 20 years and teaching for 16 of those years. She has experience in hunter/jumpers, eventing, and basic western riding. She is certified to teach through the CHA instructors’ program. She loves teaching all levels of riding from beginners through advanced and specializes in boosting the confidence of nervous/timid riders. When she is not at the barn, you can see her riding or showing her own horse.
There is no better way to enjoy riding then doing it with a friend. My delightful buddy Dayna has joined me on a weekly basis to fine tune her riding skills, too. Now Mondays are even better and even exciting. As you can see, we like to do it in style, too.
I’ve learning that re-connecting with your passion is priceless—and that’s nothing to horse around with.
