Kitchen renovations are nothing new at Rosebrook Gardens–I did my first one within a few months of construction!
After moving into my home, which was newly built, I couldn’t overlook the utter lack of style and charm in the kitchen. With my 6 core Casual Luxury design principles at the ready, I transformed that rather functional but flat looking space into a bright, useful and beautifully designed kitchen. If I do say so myself, it was perfectly updated, and perfectly stylish, as you can see from the photo.
And then ‘it’ happened. I woke up one morning to a floor full of water and a big leak. It wasn’t immediately apparent where the leak was coming from. The culprit: a pinhole leak in a water line running to my refrigerator. We used precious time to figure out the source and turn off the water. There was a lot of damage incurred. Warped floorboards, buckled cabinets, sodden cookbooks, and a doused hope that it would dry out unnoticed. And all this before coffee! So, the process of insurance claims began and we are now ready to replace what was destroyed and of course, we will throw in a few surprise upgrades in the process.
All of this renovation will begin next Monday, and you can follow along on social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.) to find out how it is going.
Best of all, it’s part of the inspiration for season two of Life on Mar’s: The Home Makeover Show. I’ll feature the process of turning a small space into the very best it can be. You’ll want to tune in next year because we’ll be leaving season one’s lucky grandeur of ‘anything is possible’ – as we did with the amazing Green Isle – and are focusing on the small spaces we all know and love – because Casual Luxury is the cure for all design dilemmas. There are several homes and rooms undergoing my Casual Luxury design principles transformation, and you are going to learn exactly how you can add oomph to spaces that were bland, boring, dysfunctional and run-of-the-mill.
Until then, join me on my journey as we venture into my own kitchen reno. See what Life on Mar’s is really all about. Keep a pencil and paper handy to take notes. Bookmark my blog pages and follow me on social media. I promise to be cooking up some savory tips, myMARtians!
