My MARtians I love to experience gardens, whether in the center of Paris, the countryside of England, the charming Garden District of New Orleans or the surrounding plantations, but recently I discovered the Garden Club of Norfolk Virginia.
The historic Garden Week, now in its 104th year (!), was founded in 1915 and does not disappoint with this year’s tour. Beautiful homes, beautiful gardens with the most delightful and charming volunteers/hosts. I felt right at home and could see myself living in any of these wonderful shouthern charmer homes. What did I love most? The porches and verandas! Whether they were small or large they were all perfectly appointed and deigned to escape the the sun.
That said, these homes and gardens provide a perfect example how less is more when you surround yourself with beautiful finishes, well appointed rooms, and community living. It reminded me a great deal of my little magical street in Westport.
Now as I rest in my room with my two schnauzers in bed I relax and reminisce in the many wonderful memories, knowing I will be back soon. I hold onto the photos and get inspired as I know something from these photos will soon grace my home/garden. Can you guess what I will build from the photos?
Happy weekend from Virginia! Now I truly know why they say ‘Virginia is for lovers’ as I am truly a lover of what this great commonwealth lifestyle has to offer.
