Yesterday I had the pleasure to be Master of Ceremonies at the press launch luncheon. It was for The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism’s outstanding new wedding promotion: 16 Islands, 16 Weddings, One Priceless Day. My videographer was also on hand to capture the event for posterity. Love was in the air..as there is no better way to launch the idea of presenting 16 lucky couples with a dream wedding on 16 major islands in The Bahamas chain than on the most iconic day of love: February 14th.
Luck was in the air, too – considering it was only a day after a big snowstorm, the event was blessed by gorgeous blue skies and sunshine. (Maybe the magicians from the Tourism office imported that from The Bahamas, too?)
The guests arrived with anticipation at New York’s Per Se restaurant. They included many of the most influential wedding bloggers and industry elite. We all posed on the red carpet for photos, mingled over a champagne cocktail party, and dined on the world-famous cuisine that Per Se is known for. This was a beautiful event, and no wonder, as it was coordinated by Jacqueline Johnson from the Global Bridal Group.
The Honorable Obie Wilchcombe, Minister of Tourism of the Islands of The Bahamas, officially kicked off the contest, and told the crowd that “16 Weddings, 16 Islands, One Priceless Day will showcase The Islands of The Bahamas as the premier destination in the region for romance – weddings, honeymoons, vow renewals and romantic escapes.” It’s hard not to believe him when his country actually has a Director of Romance! We also got to watch a live link showing the billboard being revealed in world-famous Times Square.
Can you believe it? Couples will have the chance to be one of 16 pairs who get married on one of the 16 main islands in simultaneous ceremonies on 16th of January 2015. Each winning couple will be provided with airfare and hotel for them and two witnesses, plus wedding rings, bridal gown and tuxedo, wedding ceremony, cake and a reception.
