Yesterday’s 2014 Spring Gala benefiting Near & Far Aid was no doubt filled with plenty of Hollywood glamour. In keeping with the Oscar-timed theme of ‘Glitz. Glamour. Giving,’ Klieg lights pinpointed the entrance, while the red carpet had it’s very own Joan Rivers (celebrity impersonator Linda Axelrod) ready to welcome all arrivals. This annual event captivates the community, as hundreds of devoted supporters each year put on their designer labels to strut their stuff at Mitchells of Westport, all in support of the vision of targeting poverty and changing lives in Fairfield County.
Near & Far Aid is an all-volunteer organization working to end poverty in Fairfield County. Since 2000, more than $13 million has been granted to approximately 100 local non-profits who meet Near & Far Aid’s mission.(For more information, please visit www.nearandfaraid.org or like them on Facebook.)
While Oscar gowns were not required for the ladies, how could they resist? My beautiful date, the lovely Donna Craft, stunned “Joan” with her smashing Etro gown. As for my attire? I decided to wear my classic Brooks Brothers tuxedo jacket with a bold, on-trend purple tie and pocket square; according to “Joan” I stole the show – she called me “best dressed” for the night. (Maybe I should tune in to Fashion Police to see what she really thought?!) Perhaps it was my shoes that caught her eye? Gucci, deep patent navy, with robin’s egg blue soles: hard to ignore, and she did request a press photo of them.
A fun night all, for a great cause. Tomorrow night I’ll be at an Oscar party, but that’s a red carpet where I can sit back, relax and enjoy the show. Wonder what fashions we’ll all be talking about on Monday?
