Happy Friday, MARtians!
I see the sun peeking out from behind the clouds. This bodes well for my upcoming plans. I’m so looking forward to this weekend. We are having a block party, and it is going to be full of friends, family, and the very best neighbors. My street is a dream come true. It is small, private and I have been lucky to have had a big influence on creating Casual Luxury spaces throughout.
If you have not had your own block party, why not plan one? There is plenty of time left in the summer. Make it simple by asking everyone to bring a dish, a beverage, or to chip in somehow. (For non-cooks, assign tasks such a setting up tables, manning a grill, or creating a playlist of perfect tunes.) For those of you who are already planning your own personal fêtes or block parties, I’d like to share with you a recipe I am serving this weekend.
It’s a black bean salad, one of my must-have favorites, and lauded by guests, too. I learned it from my dear friend Geri, a great cook and a certified nutritionist, and it’s now a staple in my recipe book.
It is delicious – spicy, sweet, savory and refreshing. (Even folks who don’t usually like bean salads like it!) So good as a base for seafood, too. Best of all, it is a healthy option full of fiber and nutrients, plus, it is low in calories. It is the perfect recipe for a summer get-together because it can be served cold or room temperature. There is no mayonnaise in the dish, so it keeps beautifully. Click here and get your inner chef on–and check out the options I learned for tweaking the recipe, too.
Hey, why not have our very own on-line block party recipe swap? Share this blog with others and include your favorite summer dish.
Keep it Casual!
